Property owners and managers of shopping and retail centers are aware of the issues surrounding dumpster diving. From potential liability issues to illegal dumping, vandalism, loitering, and other associated behaviors- these issues can devalue their property, damage reputations, or decrease visitors to the businesses that are tenants at the location.Â
See what happened when Stealth’s trained security professionals spotted a suspicious vehicle near the dumpsters at a Georgia shopping center.Â
At approximately 10:49 p.m., a Stealth security operator was alerted to a vehicle approaching the dumpsters behind a Georgia shopping center monitoring client. A closer look at the live surveillance footage revealed no legitimate reason for the vehicle to be in the area, and the operator contacted local law enforcement due to the nature of the activity being observed. Responding officers arrived on site quickly and were observed making contact with one of the vehicle’s occupants and escorting them from the area.Â
Help Deter Dumpster Divers and Other Unwanted Activity at Your Property with Proactive SecurityÂ
Every shopping and retail center is unique in their security challenges. From layout and historical property damage to tenant mix and demographics, all aspects of a shopping center property need to be taken into consideration when designing an effective security solution. Â
Passive security can help after an event has already occurred- assuming surveillance cameras are actively recording, and the damage or criminal act occurred within camera sightlines. Proactive security measures like Stealth’s live video monitoring, in contrast, provide the ability to actively watch site activities in real time, and can use onsite warning speakers to inform trespassers and others that they are being watched. This is often enough to disperse them before police intervention is needed. Â
If the speakers and warnings get ignored, Stealth security operators can contact local police dispatch, as they did in the example above, and provide them with real-time information and details about suspicious or criminal activity in progress. This means that our calls are typically elevated in priority, leading to faster response times. Â
Live video monitoring uses a combination of cutting-edge technology in video analytics and the human intelligence of trained security professionals to watch key areas of your property in real time for activity, and can take appropriate action before a situation escalates, allowing for early intervention and reduced damages.Â
