Thieves targeting construction sites isn’t a new phenomenon, but in recent years, the volume of threats has significantly increased. And thieves aren’t simply targeting tools and materials that can be easily snatched from jobsites- they’ve grown bolder. In Lincoln County, North Carolina, thieves managed to successfully make off with a $65,000 piece of equipment from a jobsite, while in Gastonia, another thief nabbed more than $20,000 in tools from a work truck.Â
At approximately 10:37 p.m., a North Carolina construction site being monitored by Stealth security professionals was breached by a group of four trespassers. Observing Stealth monitoring operators spotted the group as they hopped a fence and made their way toward a secured container, shifting the locks and wedging their way inside. Local police dispatch was immediately contacted due to the nature of the activity being observed, and responding officers arrived quickly. Two of the four suspects were located and taken into custody, and police remained in the area, patrolling.Â
Help Protect Your Jobsites from Criminal Activity and Thefts with a Proactive Security SolutionÂ
Theft is so common on construction sites that many companies build the cost into their budget for a project, simply because they can expect a portion of their materials to go missing. Most construction businesses are also faced with a variety of visibility concerns, liability risks, and key areas where theft or vandalism can cause the most damage- including equipment storage, trailers, and materials storage.Â
Keeping trespassers and thieves off your jobsites is crucial- and when they make it onsite after all, a swift response can mean the difference between thousands of dollars of damages and timeline issues versus a project completed on time and budget.Â
Stealth’s remote video monitoring solution allows for a proactive security response to trespassers and other suspicious or unwanted activity at your jobsites. Using a combination of analytics-based cameras and remote video monitoring operators, we can watch key areas throughout your jobsite, spotting and responding to suspicious activity as it happens. Our monitoring operators can respond to trespassers by sounding audible warnings, or contacting local police dispatchers when police intervention is warranted. Â
Thanks to our ability to provide dispatchers with real-time details and descriptions of activity in progress, our call priority is typically elevated which can lead to faster police responses and deescalated impacts. Designed to meet the unique security needs of construction projects, our solution can also be adjusted as a project progresses- and all of this with cost savings on security spend of up to 60%.Â
