According to recent data released by the Metro Nashville Police Department, while some violent crimes have decreased in most precincts, property crimes– which include offenses of burglary, larceny, auto theft, and arson- in Nashville and Davidson County have increased by about 1.1% in total over the first half of 2023.  Â
Among those crimes seeing a spike, auto thefts in particular are way up- with the Midtown Hills precinct in the Nashville area seeing a 33.3% increase in this crime alone. Private vehicle owners are not the only ones at risk- dealerships are feeling the impacts of this fast-rising crime as well. In Memphis, police arrested two individuals responsible for helping steal 14 vehicles worth nearly $200,000 and $160,000 in cash from two auto dealerships.Â
In this Arrest of the Month video, watch Stealth’s live video monitoring catch an intruder in the act as he breaks into an inventory vehicle at a Tennessee dealership.Â
At approximately 12:40 a.m., Stealth security professionals monitoring a Tennessee auto dealership spotted an intruder walking onto the property, then walking back off into the grassy area nearby. They kept an eye on him, and a few minutes later he returned, walking the site before eventually accessing a vehicle and getting inside. A Stealth security operator immediately activated the audible alarms and contacted local police dispatch with a detailed description, including the numbered space where the intruder and vehicle were located onsite. Responding officers arrived quickly and were able to successfully locate and arrest the individual.Â
Help Protect Your Valuable Inventory from Theft and Vandalism with Proactive SecurityÂ
Rising auto theft risks make auto dealerships an even more appealing target for criminals targeting both vehicles and their valuable parts. With their valuable outdoor assets, irregularly shaped lots, and the need to allow after-hours browsing, auto dealerships themselves are by design a unique security scenario. Not to mention, every dealership has its own security concerns, depending on their layout, local demographics, and existing issues or hotspots.Â
Stealth’s live video monitoring is a proactive solution that helps prevent and deter criminal activity before, or in many cases, as it’s happening in real time, just as can be seen in the video above. It can also be customized to meet the specific needs of your dealership’s layout and primary concerns or target areas. Stealth’s team of highly trained security professionals monitor your surveillance feeds to determine whether someone is engaging in suspicious activity, or just normal after-hours browsing. When Stealth spots something or someone suspicious, we can sound onsite alarms, or contact local law enforcement and provide the details to police dispatch for intervention.  Â
