Intruder Caught in Restricted Area of New Mexico Motorcycle Dealership and Arrested

Posted by Robert Poe on May 21, 2024

As Stealth security professionals were monitoring a New Mexico dealership, they observed what appeared to be an intruder walking in a restricted area on the Northeast part of the property. Onsite audible alarms were activated, but the intruder appeared to be undeterred, leading observing monitoring staff to contact local police dispatch with a detailed description of the individual and where they were last observed. Responding officers could be seen making contact with the suspect before leading them off the premises in handcuffs, and a follow-up call with dispatchers confirmed that the intruder had been arrested.

Rise in Auto Thefts

The significant rise in auto thefts from both private owners and dealerships may have overshadowed another unnerving trend: motorcycle theft. According to data released by the National Insurance Crime Bureau, thefts increased for the third straight year- an average of 4,561 motorcycles were reported stolen each month in 2022. Thefts climbed steadily from a low of 2,879 in February, peaking in July at 6,394. Motorcycle thefts surpassed the monthly average during the warmer season from May through October.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) conducted a comprehensive analysis by compiling theft data from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) for each of the nation’s metropolitan statistical areas. The NICB report examines the number of thefts per 100,000 residents, enabling a fair comparison of theft patterns across regions, regardless of population disparities. Notably, the District of Columbia, Nevada, and Maryland secured positions within the top 10 states in terms of both theft rate and theft percentage increase. New Mexico made the top ten list for theft rate- sitting at the number 6 position with 489.67 thefts per 100,000 people.
